Description:

Providence Hospice of Seattle (serving all of King County) is seeking caring individuals to help meet our growing need, especially in the south and eastern parts of King County. Our hospice volunteers work in conjunction with an interdisciplinary team offering emotional, spiritual and practical support to adults and children with life-limiting illnesses. Transitions volunteers provide support to clients who have a life-limiting illness and a prognosis of one year or less, but who may not yet be ready for hospice services. Transitions volunteers may provide companionship, transportation, and respite, as well as run errands and perform light household tasks.

Requirements:

-Ability to view patients with empathy and respect; have good listening and communication skills.

-Good physical health. Must submit copy of negative results of a TB skin test annually.

-Not have sustained a close personal loss within the previous year.

-Completion of core 30-hour volunteer training.

-Recognition of when consultation with a Volunteer Coordinator or Care Team Manager is appropriate. Ability to operate within a team framework.

-Reliable and dependable person, 21 years old or older.

-Commitment to Providence Hospice of Seattle goals and philosophy.

-A one-year commitment to the program consisting of an average of 4 hours of services per week (this does not include transportation or phone time).
