Gospel Light Worldwide

Overview

Gospel Light Worldwide is a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit religious California corporation serving the international Christian community by helping children enter and grow in relationship with Jesus Christ through culturally relevant, locally-published Bible curriculum. We are currently managing or participating in 16 projects focused in four key regions of the world: Asia, Eastern Europe/Former Soviet Union, the Middle East and Africa.

Mission

To know Christ and make Him known through Bible-based, culturally relevant teaching resources, books, and curriculum worldwide.

History

Over 70 years ago, the legendary Bible teacher and Gospel Light founder Henrietta C. Mears established the foundation of Gospel Light Worldwide to fulfill one vital purpose: to put the best possible Bible teaching tools into the hands of teachers and learners around the world.

Henrietta Mears was one of the great Bible teachers of the 20th century. As Christian Education Director at First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, she built one of the largest Sunday Schools in the world and wrote curriculum that was in such high demand that to publish it she founded Gospel Light Publications in 1933.

Such notable Christian leaders as Richard C. Halverson, Luis Evans, Jr. and Bill Bright were among her students. Miss Mears trail-blazed age appropriate curriculum, published a new style of Vacation Bible School, and lent her support to distributing Gospel materials around the world.

Program

For only $1 per child, we can translate, provide the teacher training, print the appropriate study materials, deliver the lessons and provide evaluation for an entire year.

Here’s a simple overview of our approach to international children’s ministry:

1. We choose from almost seven decades of age- appropriate children’s Bible lessons proven effective at grounding children in the Faith.

2. Once the proper curriculum is selected, lessons cannot simply be translated word for word. There are many cultural differences that must be respected and integrated in order for the materials to be understood and truly appreciated.

3. Our desire is to transition the publishing rights and responsibilities to the local church or other sustainable ministry organizations as soon as possible, generally after the first printing.

4. Our teaching model is built into every lesson plan and Teacher’s Guidebooks. In other words, once a teacher sees another teach they will be able to teach the next lesson from their guidebook by themselves.

Our efforts are mostly unduplicated; no other organization is providing as comprehensive program to the Christian community in the areas we serve.

Impact

Early religious instruction for children has proven to be one of the most powerful predictors of a lifelong Christian faith. Yet the vast majority of churches outside of the United States have not focused on their children’s spiritual education—until recently. Today, it is a top priority.

This year, our goal is to help One Million Children enter and grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Goals

Three Main Corporate Objectives | (1) Preserve our core and simultaneously adapt to a changing world, (2) Help One Million Children enter and grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and (3) Shape a strong organization that can prosper beyond any leader, great idea, market cycle or well funded program.
