Volunteer Programs Offer Far More than Just Labor
As well as providing nonprofits with additional capacity, volunteer programs increase awareness and commitment to their cause; engage people in their work; and build relationships that often lead to financial support.
An Untapped Opportunity
Stanford University’s Center on Longevity reports that more than 90% of Americans say they want to volunteer, yet only 25% actually do. The most common explanations for those 130 million adults, who would like to volunteer but do not, are a lack of free time and inflexible volunteer schedules.
One Minute For Good
In order to engage some of those 130 million potential volunteers in charitable causes and nonprofits, we are launching One Minute for Good. This nano-volunteer program lets people engage with their favorite causes within the constraints of their busy schedules.
Millions of subscribers (who participate at no cost) will receive a daily email with a rewarding action, which lets them make a difference in just one minute. Most of those quick daily actions will be digital, while some will be in-person. For instance, one-minute actions for the cause of the Environment might include:
-
- Walk around your home and turn off lights that are not in use
- Join a nonprofit’s mailing list or follow them on social media
- Read and share a nonprofit’s post on social media
- See and share a nonprofit’s infographic or short video about the cause
- Sign a petition
- Forward an email promoting an environmentally-friendly initiative
You can see sample content and how it works at [add URL]. It is currently password-protected so that it can only be seen by those nonprofits we invite (and not by the public). The password is minute.
Invitation to Participate in One Minute For Good at No Cost
We are inviting the participation (at no cost!) of leading nonprofits, including yours if we have invited you to this page. We make it quick and easy: a simple form will let you submit one-minute tasks, which will promote your cause and organization to our subscribers and their network.
About Us
Changing the Present helps channel to nonprofits some of the $450 billion Americans spend each year on birthday, wedding, and holiday presents. We do that by making the experience of a donation, which you give in a friend's name, feel like a rewarding present and an appealing alternative to buying yet more "stuff." The slideshow on this page shows how it works.
Among the hundreds of leading nonprofits already appearing on our site are: Natural Resources Defense Council, The Nature Conservancy, First Book, Helen Keller International, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Water.org, ASPCA, Stand Up To Cancer, Global Fund for Women, Global Fund for Children, Alzheimer's Association, Sesame Street, Operation Smile, and Mercy Corps.
Our new platform now lets us expand to serve and generate funding for all nonprofits. If you would like for your organization to join at no cost and to start attracting a new source of funding, please see: ChangingThePresent.org/pages/for-nonprofits
