Millions of people around the world need visual refractive correction in order to carry on productive lives. The majority of these people are poor and live in isolated areas outside the reach of reliable, permanent optical services. There are an insufficient number of health care workers capable of delivering primary eye care in remote or urban poverty areas. There is also a lack of or inadequate equipment and supplies (spectacles and medicines).
Your donation will equip a village-based primary eye care provider or health workers with a FOCOMETER®. The FOCOMETER® is an optical device that allows providers to measure visual errors and dispense corrective lenses. It is easy to use and does not require electricity. The FOCOMETER® gives reasonably close readings (within 0.5 diopter) when compared with other refracting methods. The device has been tested with success in over 20 countries. Currently there are “Village Vision Station” programs in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, Mexico, Haiti, Tanzania, Uganda and many other areas that have benefited from the FOCOMETER®. Imagine the joy and smiles of an individual who may see clearly for the first time in their life. Give the gift of eye sight. There is nothing more precious.
