Families that fled their homes during the war in Lebanon this summer lack supplies to care for infant children. In many cases, these families are still living in temporary living quarters where keeping children healthy is difficult. The necessary supplies in the hygiene kits allow mothers to easily protect their children from preventable illnesses, which pre-empts the need for costly medical treatments in the future.

The Gift

The hygiene kits are a key component of ANERA’s mission to focus on preventative health care for displaced persons as they raise awareness about good health and hygiene practices. The kits include baby wash and shampoo, diapers, baby wipes, and aspirin for infants. Powdered milk is included in kits for children aged 1 to 3 years old. Infant formula is available for children aged 0 to 12 months, but is only distributed after consultation with a medical professional to determine if the mother is breastfeeding and if not, whether or not breastfeeding is possible.
