What is a Charitable Wedding Registry

A Charitable Wedding Registry is similar to a traditional gift registry, except that the couple asks guests to fund specific nonprofits and donation gifts instead of (or in addition to) purchasing towels, china, toasters, or other conventional gifts.

How do we create a Wedding Registry?

It's simple to create a Wedding Registry. Start by logging in or joining ChangingThePresent.org, then click on the Registry tab at the top of any page and click the [submit] button under "Create A Registry." This will create a wedding registry and allow you to input information about your celebtion.


How do we add gifts to our Registry?

You can browse gifts by cause or price range or search for specific nonprofits using the search box in the upper right hand corner of each page. When you reach a page with a donation gift or nonprofit that you would like to add to your registry, click on [Add to Wishlist / Registry] to add it to your wedding registry.


How do we edit our Registry?

To edit your registry, just login to ChangingThePresent.org. Next click on the [Registries] tab of your profile and then click on the green [EDIT my Registry] button.

How do we announce our Registry?

In the right hand corner of your registry screen, click the link [announce this registry] to send email announcements to your friends and family. The email will include a link to your registry on ChangingThePresent.org.

You can also add the web address of your charitable wedding registry to your wedding website! Simply copy the web address at the top of your browser window and paste it into your wedding website.

How do our friends and family find our wedding registry?

Your friends and family can easily find your registry by clicking on the [Registries] tab from any page and searching for your name. They can also enter your name in the search box in the upper right corner of every page except the homepage.

Are Wedding Registries Free?

Yes. There is no charge for creating a Charitable Wedding Registry on ChangingThePresent.org.

How can we ensure that donations are recorded on our registry?

When you send your friends and family to your registry page, make sure that the donations they make occur DIRECTLY on your registry page. We encourage your friends and family to look around the site or read about the nonprofits on your registry, but they will need to RETURN TO YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE ADDING GIFTS TO THEIR SHOPPING CART. This is the only way to ensure that you will be notified of a donation made to your registry.

They will then be brought to their shopping cart. From the shopping cart, they may add more charities directly from the registry page, or they may checkout. Once finished adding gifts to the shopping cart, they will click on the [Checkout] button and continue through the checkout.

How do we see who donated to our registry so that we can send thank you notes?

To see the donations made to your registry, simply log in at www.ChangingThePresent.org and view your registry page by clicking [view registry] from your profile. Your registry page includes a tab called [donations], which appears alongside the guestbook, blog, story, and registry tab). This tab will list everyone who made a donation directly from your registry page.

Also, ChangingThePresent.org offers beautiful greeting cards to announce donation gifts. Your guests can personalize the cards that also contain an inspirational photo and description of the donation gift. (When guests add a donation gift to their shopping cart, we will ask if you want a card).

Is there a charge for making a gift to a charity on a Wedding Registry?

There is no service fee on ChangingThePresent.org. 100% of each donation is passed directly to the nonprofits, less a standard credit card transaction fee of 3% and 30 cents. This is the same fee nonprofits pay when you make a donation directly on their website.

Are the donations tax deductible?

Yes. Each individual who purchases a donation gift will receive an email confirmation as proof of donation for tax purposes. However, greeting cards ordered to announce a donation gift are not tax-deductible.
