Helping the homeless and poor in southern New Jersey.
The Atlantic City Rescue Mission is set apart by the Spirit of God to preach the Gospel and meet the physical, emotional, and other basic needs (through the provision of shelter, clothing, food, counseling, referral, and structured programs) of the poor and addicted in Atlantic City, New Jersey and the surrounding communities.
The Atlantic City Rescue Mission (ACRM) was founded in 1964 and provided hot food and shelter to a few homeless men from a small storefront in Atlantic City. Since that time, the Mission has added or expanded programs over the years in response to the growing and changing needs of the people we serve.
Today ACRM helps over 3,300 homeless and working poor people per year and is the largest provider of comprehensive services to about 20% of the entire state of New Jersey’s homeless population. ACRM is also unique in that it serves unsubsidized clients.
The Atlantic City Rescue Mission provides over 250,000 meals per year to the homeless and hungry. The Mission provides safe shelter for approximately 300 men, women, and children each night.
William R. Southrey, President/Chief Executive Officer, has served in this capacity since 1999.
Bill was born and raised in Absecon, New Jersey. He began his career at the Atlantic City Rescue Mission as a volunteer and accepted a paid position with the Mission in 1981. Bill worked his way through the Mission over the last 25+ years, holding the positions of Director of Operations, Chaplain, Director of Transient Ministries, and Vice President of Community and Government Relations.
