Raise An Orphan
Wild mammal care
Best Friends Animal Society
Problem
Each year the sanctuary is inundated with orphan mammals of all shapes and sizes. These orphans include mice, squirrels, chipmunks, cottontails, jackrabbits, bobcats and cougars. Each orphan needs round-the-clock supportive care to survive; including constant heat, 24-hour bottle feeding, weaning to solid foods and medical treatment for injuries and shock. All orphans are carefully weaned and prepared for survival in the wild before being released.
