Preserve Fauna
One school education kit
Brazilian Network to Combat the Wild Animal Trafficking
Problem
Environmental education was recently included in the permanent curriculum of schools in Brazil. Unfortunately, the subject of fauna remains very poorly explored, as schools don’t have specific teaching materials. This situation is worsened by the lack of teacher awareness and preparation on the environment as a class subject.
The Gift
Renctas distributes free environmental education kits with videos and folders to Brazilian public schools, to increase the awareness of children from 12 to 18 years old about the damages wild animal trafficking causes to society and the environment. Each donation will finance one Educational Kit for a school. Brazilian states where the traffic of wild animals is more important are given priority in the distribution of these kits. The expected result of this action is increasing awareness of children and teenagers about the wild animals’ traffic and its environmental, legal, sanitary, economic, and social consequences; and decreasing the use of wild fauna as pets. We also expect mobilization of the public for biodiversity conservation. Wild animal trafficking is intimately associated with child exploitation, and we believe that this project is also a way of preventing child and adolescent crime.
