Companions For Life
Problem
Did you know that 65.3% of DISD students are Hispanic? That 83% live below the federal poverty line? Did you know that DISD does not include humane education in any part of their curriculum? Humane education is key to solving the enormous pet overpopulation problem our country is facing by elevating the status of companion animals from disposable pets to essential members of our society. But thousands of Hispanic children grow up with little or no positive interaction with pets.
The Gift
Your donation will help purchase workbooks that teach compassion, respect and responsibility for animals. We'll use these workbooks in our partnerships with Dallas' Parks & Recreation, Dallas Environmental & Health Services, city-run after-school programs and summer camps, children’s shelters and hospitals and more! The "Yo Quiero a los Animales" workbooks teach children respect and responsibility for pets, animal safety, compassion, caring, and the importance of spay/neuter and adoption. The workbooks are produced by the ASPCA’s education department and are totally reproducible so they can be used over and over.
