Problem
Groups like Human Rights Watch have reported increased insecurity and violence towards girls and women in Afghanistan. While girls' enrollment in school increased after the fall of the Taliban in 2001, a recent increase in attacks on schools has thrown another challenge towards the safety of women and girls. Access to basic healthcare remains scarce for most women.
The Gift
The Global Fund for Women is proud to support women's organizations in Afghanistan focused on the rights of women and girls. Groups like the Afghan Institute of Learning, the Afghan Women's Educational Centre, and the Health and Development Center for Afghan Women offers classes on literacy, health and human rights, and provide health education and medical services to those who otherwise would have no access to such resources.
