Prevent Conflict
North East Asia
International Crisis Group
Problem
North Korea's nuclear weapons program has presented the regional and international community with a significant security challenge. In recent years, the success of diplomatic engagement with the country has been limited, and North Korea’s precipitous internal situation compounds its nuclear threat, as any collapse would place a heavily militarized failed state on the border of China and South Korea. Crisis Group’s North East Asia Project monitors and reports on this precarious situation.
The Gift
Crisis Group’s North East Asia Project, based in South Korea, works to provide timely analysis of the regional dynamics affecting multilateral negotiations over North Korea's nuclear program. Your donation to Crisis Group’s team in South Korea will provide much needed resources for essential international liaison work, assessments of previous attempts at negotiations, and the development of policy proposals for future talks. Your donation will also support the project’s research and reporting on prospects for reform in North Korea and the domestic, political, and institutional influences shaping the positions of key actors. In addition, your gift will support the Seoul office’s monitoring of tensions in the Taiwan Strait aimed at preventing a renewed confrontation between China and Taiwan. With your donation, you will help Crisis Group in promoting peace and security in this region and internationally. For more information about this project please go to www.crisisgroup.org.
