Problem

In recent years, Colombia has experienced a worrisome rise in power of paramilitary and guerrilla groups. These violent groups are deeply involved in a power struggle marked by kidnappings, drug-trafficking and indiscriminate violence. A growing number of civilians are affected by the conflict as it spreads throughout the country. Crisis Group monitors this situation from Bogotá, also tracking the threat of a spillover of violence into the greater Andean region.
