Public Radio International, Inc.
Problem
These are challenging times for our nation’s media. Where diversity of opinion and ownership once reigned, just a handful of powerful companies hold a controlling interest in today’s media outlets. To compete in this environment, PRI strives to pair our crucial work with a lean fiscal structure that limits administrative and fixed costs. For instance, rather than maintaining costly production studios, we partner with public radio stations to produce programs and invest in emerging talent.
The Gift
PRI co-produces two award-winning programs: The World (with WGBH in Boston and the BBC World Service in London) and Studio 360 (with WNYC in New York). In addition, PRI distributes many of public radio’s most admired programs, including the BBC World Service and This American Life. Over 11 million people listen to PRI programs each week on 750 affiliate public radio stations across the country. Unlike other producers of public radio programming, PRI does not maintain centralized production facilities; our extensive programming portfolio is produced in collaboration with leading stations and independent producers around the country. This allows PRI to be open to fresh new ideas and new voices, and enables us to offer a diverse range of programming while maintaining a lean and cost-effective operation. Your financial support will enable PRI to continue to partner with stations and produce award-winning content in top notch production facilities.
