Problem
Underserved kids in the South Bronx, ages 9-18, are not receiving adequate education, tutoring or access to college resources and employment opportunities. According to the 2005 census, the Bronx remains the poorest urban county in the country. Out of the 20,000 people living in the Hunts Point Section of the South Bronx age 25 and older, 36% are high school graduates, and onl 3.4% are college graduates. The high school drop out rate is 17.4%. \
The Gift
Your donation will ensure that one South Bronx low-income teen will receive one year of after-school college access and college counseling services during their high school career. The Point's after-school academic support model consists of proper education placement options, college counseling, SAT Prep, individual fundraising and financial aid services and personal leadership programming. This gift will provide access for one more high school Bronx student to college counseling and academic support services at The Point. This donation will support The Point in their mission to provide substantive programming such as after-school academic support which will help "level the playing field" for young people in the Bronx who would otherwise become another negative statistic instead of a success story.
