Burmese Refugees
One radio spot
US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants
Problem
Thailand hosts nearly 500,000 refugees, mostly from Burma. About 150,000 of them live in camps near the border. The remainder live underground as illegal migrants, hiding from local authorities. This has gone on for over two decades. The government does not have a refugee law. Through engaging civil society in Thailand, USCRI is working to build support for refugees’ rights to work and move freely without restriction and access to education for children of refugees.
The Gift
Your gift of $100 will enable USCRI to buy one radio spot in Thailand promoting refugee rights. This is part of a larger media campaign USCRI is undertaking to educate the public about the plight of refugees and migrants in the country. USCRI is working to build a local constituency who will advocate for refugee rights and protection, and also support better policies.
