Breast Cancer Alliance

Overview

Breast Cancer Alliance (BCA) has established itself as the major private foundation committed to early-stage research. That means it can identify important new scientists, or those tenured in their careers, and provide the crucial bridge funding that gets them from the conceptual stage to eligibility for federal support. Breast Cancer Alliance understands that survival rates and quality of life are dramatically improved when patients are in the care of specially trained breast surgeons and is committed to funding breast surgery fellowships annually at selected Society of Surgical Oncology accredited institutions. We also dedicate grant funding each year towards breast health awareness and to eliminating barriers of access to care for underserved women.

Mission

The mission of Breast Cancer Alliance (BCA) is to improve survival rates and quality of life for those impacted by breast cancer through better prevention, early detection, treatment and cure. To promote these goals, we invest in innovative research, breast surgery fellowships, regional education, dignified support and screening for the underserved.

History

Breast Cancer Alliance (BCA) was founded in 1996 by 6 women, one of whom was dying of metastatic breast cancer, as an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding innovative, early-stage research and to supporting the breast health needs of underserved women.

Program

To date, Breast Cancer Alliance (BCA) has granted over $25 million - $1.8 in 2017 alone - to provide crucial funding in our 3 areas of focus: early-stage, cutting-edge research at medical institutions across the US, the training of future breast surgeons, and to eliminating barriers of access to care for underserved women.

Impact

Breast Cancer Alliance (BCA) is one of the most prominent, private, non-corporate breast cancer organizations in the United States. A once regional organization, it is now making significant, national impact.

Goals This Year

To continue to expand the breadth and capacity of our funding to support critical advances in the field of breast cancer.
