Building Opportunities For Self-Sufficiency
Problem
Illnesses, chronic health conditions, disabilities, and other health needs impairs the ability of homeless people to care for themselves and their families, and to maintain stable jobs and housing. Some medical services are available from providers who accept MediCare or community-based health clinics, yet left uncovered are many prescription costs, over the counter medications, and household items that support family health and wellness.
The Gift
This gift will provide help with small items that make a big impact on health. Assistance provided may include paying for prescriptions or over-the-counter medications (cold/flu, asthma, nutrition supplements, pain relievers) that homeless and very poor people cannot afford. It may also include home exercise items (exercise tubs or fitness balls), air cleaners/purifiers, humidifiers, or other household items that help people maintain safe and healthy home environments, and develop and teach their children healthy habits.
