In India, over half of adolescent and teenage girls marry before the age of 18. These early marriages perpetuate a family’s cycle of chronic hunger and poverty. But girls like Sumitra--who live in rural villages where discrimination and violence against women are common--want education to resist early marriage. Freedom from Hunger invites girls like Sumitra to join self-help groups that give them access to loans, life skills training to choose their own life path.
