Counsel and Test
HIV services for 50
International Aids Vaccine Initiative Inc
Problem
Currently, around 40 million people are living with HIV/AIDS around the world. Every day, there are 14,000 new infections, 95 percent in the developing world. Until we find a vaccine, AIDS education is one of the best ways to fight the epidemic. Many people in developing countries do not have access to health care, including counseling and testing for HIV. According to UNAIDS, current prevention services reach fewer than 20% of those who need them.
The Gift
Your donation will cover the costs of one outing of a Mobile Voluntary Counseling and Testing Unit. Access to healthcare clinics is often very limited for those in rural areas, so mobile teams take the services to the people. One team can provide HIV counseling and testing to over 50 clients a day. Access to these services helps educate people on how to stay HIV-negative which helps control the spread of the disease. This counseling and testing is also necessary for those individuals interested in enrolling in a vaccine trial. Your gift will bring these healthcare services to over 50 people who otherwise would not have access to them. This one gift will have a large impact on the recipient communities and will help stop the spread of AIDS.
