Problem

We provide quality, stable housing to thousands of low income families- housing that serves as a foundation for families to pursue their dreams. But in today’s competitive economy, individuals also need solid education and job skills to secure good paying jobs. With this aim, the National Housing Trust strives to provide GED classes at many of its properties for residents who do not have a high school degree.

The Gift

A donation of $80 will help put one adult on the path to receiving a GED. This donation will be used to pay for a full day of GED training and to cover the cost of test registration. For many of our residents, not having a high school diploma is a major obstacle preventing them from pursuing their dreams; just ask Vincent Ross, a resident of one of our properties in Charlottesville, VA. Vincent did not graduate from high school but dreamed of pursuing a career in art and design. He took a GED class and went on to pass. He now has a job, his own apartment, and is enrolled in an art school. In his own words: “If the GED program had not come to Friendship Court, I would be like the rest of the bad influences in the community—just letting life pass by."
