Prison Book Program
Problem
68% of state prison inmates do not have a high school diploma. With no diploma and a criminal record, it is extremely difficult for released prisoners to find gainful employment and become productive citizens. A GED can substantially reduce the chances of prisoners returning to the prison system upon their release.
The Gift
By providing a GED study guide and a good dictionary to one prisoner, you are giving him a chance to earn a GED, improve reading skills, find gainful employment upon release and shut the revolving door of crime and prison behind him. The community gains one more productive citizen and saves the cost of housing one more inmate.
