Facilitate Lending
Gather Energy Data
Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future
Problem
Grant and loan programs for energy efficiency are targeted almost exclusively to single-family homes. Attention to the multifamily stock is long overdue. As owners of a substantial portion of the nation's affordable multifamily stock, SAHF's members recognize that energy-efficiency improvements will reduce their operating costs and translate into quality-of-life improvements for residents. Obtaining data on usage is an essential first step. Public funding for data collection is unavailable.
The Gift
Nonprofit housing providers can borrow private funds to implement energy efficiency measures only if they can document the savings to be anticipated as a result of the improvements. A contribution of $5 will enable SAHF's members to purchase data gathering for one meter (one property), laying the groundwork for energy-efficient rehabilitation that will benefit residents and reduce the carbon footprint of the building in question.
