Sniff Out Landmines
One week of detection
The Marshall Legacy Institute
Landmines cripple and kill thousands of people each year, keep refugees from their homes and deny residents of conflict-torn countries the opportunity to rebuild long after wars end. More than a quarter of the world's nations still suffer fromt he effects of these hidden killers. Limited resources keep these countries from being able to remove landmines.
A landmine detection dog, paired with a dedicated handler, can greatly increase the speed and safety of efforts to find and remove landmines. A mine detection dog team can work ten times as fast as a person alone. To help countries recover from conflict, MLI provides fully trained mine detection dogs and training for local handlers as a permanent gift. Your gift will cover one week of your dog's working life, allowing the team to save lives and restore hope to those threatened by landmines. Your dog will spend 6 to 8 years working in its new home country and then retire to a loving home after having searched over a million square meters of potentially landmine infested land.
