Nepal’s caste society—with a powerful patriarchal tradition—fosters gender disparity from early childhood. Women of all ages have been disadvantaged economically and educationally, and their illiteracy rate is significantly higher than that of men, especially in rural areas. Literature and informational materials designed for women are in short supply.
