Overview

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) is a new initiative dedicated to accelerating groundbreaking cancer research, getting new therapies to the patients who need them as quickly as possible. A charitable program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, SU2C focuses on translational cancer research, fostering collaboration between the most talented and promising researchers in the country. This is where the end of cancer begins!

Mission

To bring together the best and the brightest in the cancer community, encouraging collaboration instead of competition.

Program

SU2C utilizes the entertainment industry to create public awareness and build broad support for translational cancer research. Funds raised by SU2C support research projects conducted by interdisciplinary, multi-institutional "Dream Teams" and high-risk Innovative Research Grants from which ideas for new Dream Teams may arise. The funds are administered through the American Association for Cancer Research, the largest scientific organization in the world focusing on every aspect of high-quality, innovative cancer research. Grants management and expert review are conducted by the AACR via a rigorous yet flexible process led by a "Blue Ribbon" Scientific Advisory Committee.
SU2C is committed to identifying the most promising opportunities and leveraging its resources to create a paradigm shift in the way cancer research is funded; SU2C is also committed to transparency and high-quality science in its funding activities.

Impact

SU2C's Scientific Advisory Committee has selected eight finalists out of 237 submissions from around the world for its initial round of "Dream Team" Grants, due to be awarded in the Spring of 2009. The funds for these grants will come from the more than $100 million raised by SU2C since its launch in May 2008, most of it in connection with a September 5th televised event that aired simultaneously on ABC, CBS and NBC and in over 170 countries.
