United Spinal Association was founded in 1946 by veterans with spinal cord injuries to help enable members, as well as others with disabilities, to lead full and productive lives.

Mission

United Spinal Association is dedicated to improving the quality of life for Americans with spinal cord injuries and disorders.

Program

United Spinal enhances the lives of its members through its service and program offerings in: counseling; referrals and service identification and location; wheelchair and assistive technology consultation; veterans Services; sports and recreational opportunities; peer coaching; health and benefits information; self-advocacy coaching and support; disaster assistance; and legislative advocacy.

Impact

United Spinal advocated for and drafted significant provisions of landmark federal legislation including The Americans with Disabilities Act, The Fair Housing Amendments Act, The Air Carrier Access Act, VA benefits for veterans with spinal cord disabilities, and veteran dependents with spina bifida, and VA disability benefits for injured veterans returning from conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. We also provide unique opportunities such as educational conventions and adaptive sport tournaments and clinics that keep our members connected to the community and their peers, and allowing them to pursue their own interests and passions regardless of their disability.
