- Educate a Child BRAC USA IncProblem In 1997, the Uganda introduced its “Universal Primary Education” plan which resulted in 93% of school-age children enrolling in primary school. Unfortunately, the government was not able to sustain this momentum in Northern Uganda, where many children live in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. Consequently, the enrollment rate of school-age children in Northern Uganda is less than 50%, with less than 2% completing primary school, and more than 50% dropping out before grade three. The Gift A donation of $97 will fund an entire year of school for a Ugandan child in an IDP camp. Education has a positive impact on not only the future earning potential of a child but also helps reduce vulnerability to health problems such as HIV/AIDS, increases awareness of human rights and issues such as family planning and improves confidence and overall well being. BRAC is already providing Northern Uganda's IDP camp children with the opportunity for education in specially designed schools that are suitable for older children. These schools follow BRAC's unique, interactive approach to education which makes learning a fun experience for students and prepares them to be mainstreamed into the government’s schools. The first class of BRAC learners (aged 10-12 years old) recently graduated from Grade 1, and 844 passed their exams and have been mainstreamed into the government schools.$97.00

- Help Vets Connect Veterans for AmericaProblem Reconnecting to society is tough for many war veterans. It can be difficult to readjust to civilian life, obtain a job, and find accurate and veteran-friendly information on health problems such as traumatic brain injury or post-traumatic stress disorder. Continuing war coverage by non-veteran pundits often leaves veterans feeling like their voice is ignored. The Gift Building on lessons from service in four wars, Veterans for America galvanizes new war veterans nationwide, creating an empowered community and space to share common experiences. We raise awareness about challenges facing returning veterans and promote common-sense solutions. Our website and community blogs provide an active atmosphere to share experiences among those who understand their challenges. Veterans For America’s website serves as a unique portal and resource to Government and private resources. Our daily news updates provide critical information specific to veterans’ needs, such as developments in healthcare and Veterans For America legislative initiatives. Your gift of $43 will keep our veteran’s community blogs and news service up and running for one day. Please help provide the community tools that enable our returning war veterans to find a safe space to share their stories and make their voices heard.$43.00

With Arctic ice already melting rapidly due to global warming, we can’t afford to compound the problem by also devastating vital denning habitat in the Refuge. The Gift We must have everyone’s support to stop Congress from handing the home of polar bears and other wildlife over to Big Oil, which will only result in a savings of a penny at the gas pump…and that’s in 20 years! Your gift to Adopt A Polar Bear will help Defenders save polar bears and other imperiled Arctic wildlife.$125.00
- Fund Clean Beaches The School for Field StudiesProblem For humans, marine debris fouls pristine beaches and poses health hazards. For aquatic wildlife, the effects can be more deadly. Sea birds and marine animals get caught in a variety of debris with often fatal results including suffocation and drowning. Strangulation and starvation result when animals mistake debris for food. Discarded fishing line is responsible for nearly half of all entanglements, with rope, fishing nets, and those ubiquitous plastic grocery bags following closely behind. The Gift With your help, students and staff at each of two School for Field Studies environmental research centers will join with community members four times a year to clean up local beaches. As part of their outreach activities, students at the Center for Marine Resources Studies in the Turks and Caicos Islands will organize beach clean ups at East Bay, Hawklands, and Shark Bay Beaches on South Caicos Island. At the Center for Coastal Studies in Baja California Sur, Mexico, students will join with a local organization, Magdalena Bay Keepers, to clean up trash along the shore of the bay in the fishing village of Puerto San Carlos. During a recent beach clean up in Mexico, 168 bags of trash were collected by 161 volunteers who cleaned two miles of coastline. Items collected included: 1,262 plastic and paper bags; 1,716 plastic bottles; 402 food containers; 197 disposable diapers; 57 fishing nets.$75.00

- Fight Corruption Transparency International USAProblem Bribery and corruption divert scare resources that would otherwise help lift millions out of poverty. Corruption raises the cost of essential public services, such as education, nutrition, clean water and health care, and impedes investment that would translate into economic growth and a higher standard of living. TI-USA advocates for donor institutions to minimize these negative effects by doing more to ensure that development assistance funds reach their intended beneficiaries. The Gift Your gift will help TI-USA ensure that resources reach those who need them the most. We work with donor organizations, including multilateral banks and US foreign aid institutions, to ensure that the full potential of development aid is achieved. TI-USA advises donors on their efforts to stamp out corruption, encourages them to make anti-corruption control programs a top priority, and assists them in mobilizing forces to combat corruption. It works across institutions to achieve consistent approaches.$100.00

- Promote Sanitation Water.orgThe Problem Unsafe drinking water is the #1 killer of children under age 5, and it delays economic development in children of all ages. In Gulomekeda and Ganta-afeshum, 13% of the population has access to clean water, and 9% has access to adequate sanitation services. Women and children spend hours daily collecting contaminated water. The lack of access to safe drinking water is compounded by poor hygiene habits, causing an increase in water-related diseases and child mortality. The Gift This gift will pay for 130 children to receive health and sanitation education classes. We are constructing five community spring water catchment systems and pit latrines for individual households and the local elementary school, and providing health education, community development and technical training. Upon completion, 1,720 people will have access to safe water and latrines. Clean, accessible water will allow women and children time for school and other tasks. This project will act as a catalyst for other community-driven improvements. A crucial factor in the success of our projects is education about safe hygiene practices and their importance to an individual’s health. People who understand the link between hygienic practices and disease are more likely to maintain the water supply system and latrines. Community health workers with hygiene educators, will provide community hygiene education through village meetings and trainings.$100.00
