Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids
Problem
The tobacco industry spends more than $15.4 billion per year, more than $42 million per day, to market and advertise its products, much of it aimed at kids. On Kick Butts Day, thousands of youth advocates will organize activities to expose and counter these efforts.
The Gift
Kick Butts Day is the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids' annual celebration of youth leadership and activism, when thousands of kids around the world will stand out, speak up and seize control in the fight against Big Tobacco. KBD educates kids about the dangers of tobacco, while giving youth the tools to take matters into their own hands and achieve real results in tobacco prevention, control and education. Activities include youth-led rallies, surveys of tobacco advertising, and street activism. In 2006, nearly 2,000 events across the country generated hundreds of media stories reaching an audience of more than 20 million. Youth advocates from around the country contributed to the new Activity Guide, sharing activity and event ideas for youth of all ages. The KBD guide and CD ROM serve as important resources on KBD and throughout the year. Your donation will send these valuable materials to two schools.
