Save A Family
One relief kit
While the South Asia region is hit by monsoons every year, what is unusual this year is the scale of devastation. Severe flooding has uprooted the lives of an estimated 30 million people, and gone beyond what communities and governments are prepared to handle. Those affected were only getting by on meager daily wages, so the loss of harvests is devastating to those who depend on that income, which has been washed away with the crops … and by the rest of the community that depends on the food.
As you might imagine, the most pressing needs are safe (and dry) shelter, food, and clean water. Many water pumps are submerged and wells are polluted. An emergency kit, which costs CRS only $40 to provide per family, contains vital relief supplies, including tarps, water purifiers, kitchen sets, buckets, and 10-day rations of high-protein food. We've been able to reach 70,000 families across the region with initial measures of support, and continue to expand our recovery effort in collaboration with our partners and the local government, and based on the needs specific to each area.
