Problem
Since 2003, millions of men, women, and children have been displaced in the Darfur region of Sudan. Today, more than 2.5 million people are living in crowded camps scattered across arid desert areas, one of the most hostile environments in the world. Natural resources are dangerously scarce and the responsibility to collect fuel wood and drinking water usually falls to the women in the camps - imposing great risk upon themselves as they have to leave the relative safety of the camps.
The Gift
Update: April 22, 2009 Due to recent political events in Sudan, CHF International is one of 13 international aid organizations in Darfur that has been asked by the Sudanese government to leave the Darfur region. CHF International regrets the decision of the Sudanese government and remains committed to working with the Sudanese government in order to continue to provide humanitarian assistance and development to the people of Darfur. CHF hopes that the situation will be resolved in such a way as we are able to continue our life-saving work as soon as possible. However, as it is unknown when we will be able to return to the region, if we are unable to re-enter, all current donations received for this project may need to be reprogrammed to other CHF aid and development activities around the world. Please note that CHF is an independent, neutral organization whose focus is entirely on helping the most vulnerable people in North and South Sudan.
