Problem

Did you know that 1.1 billion people call India home? Today, a surprising 25% of the population lives in perpetual poverty due to 3,000 years of caste oppression. This segment of the population, known as the “Untouchables” or Dalit, receives poor medical care, and many are turned away at the hospital door because of perceived “uncleanness.” Without preventative care, Dalit children suffer chronically from common, curable maladies and diseases that are virtually unseen in the developed world.

The Gift

This gift will cover the cost of vaccinations for one Dalit child. Not only is this a practical and much needed gift, it is a small investment with a big return: a healthy childhood. Healthy children are more likely to stay in school and succeed. In addition, you’re supporting the Dalit Freedom Network (DFN) Healthcare Program, which is the first comprehensive healthcare program for Dalits. Our four-fold strategy includes: visiting medical teams from North America who offer specialized treatment, permanent Regional Medical Clinics in centralized locations, permanent Community Healthcare Workers at sponsored schools, and a scholarship endowment for Dalits who plan to attend medical school. Our strategic Healthcare Program is just one component contributing to our goal of empowering Dalit communities with valuable skills and resources to achieve holistic and sustainable transformation
