Educate on AIDS

Problem
There are currently around 40 million people living with HIV/AIDS around the world. Every day, there are 14,000 new infections, and 95 percent of those are in the developing world. One of IAVI’s focuses is on creating an enabling environment for the development of preventive AIDS vaccines. To increase country support for AIDS vaccines, the “Vaccine Literacy" project aims to disseminate consistent, comprehensive educational materials and training resources tailored to different audiences.
The Gift
Your donation will pay for two AIDS Vaccine Literacy Toolkits for people in the developing world where the epidemic is the most serious and where people have limited access to health education. The primary purpose of this Vaccine Literacy Toolkit project is to provide materials and tools that are culturally relevant for the individual needs of countries, communities and audiences, but that contain accurate, globally consistent information. The Toolkit will also include a training manual, which will be adaptable for use by in-country trainers. A ‘train-the-trainer’ format will be used so that in-country trainers and selected community leaders can adapt the curriculum in order to train their respective audiences. Your gift will provide knowledge and training tools for communities to educate themselves on AIDS and AIDS vaccines. This knowledge will empower individuals and will have a positive rippling effect throughout the community.
