Mentoring for 10
Unfortunately, statistics show that a first-grader from a low-income background has one-fourth the vocabulary of his mid-income peers, which is not surprising when you realize that children from low-income communities receive 25 hours of one-to-one reading prior to kindergarten, versus their mid-income peers who benefit from an average of 1,700 hours. At Jumpstart, we believe that addressing this disparity early, and with quality intervention, will have a lasting positive effect.
This gift will provide 10 at-risk preschoolers with a highly trained Jumpstart Corps member mentor for one full semester; each Corps members will be paired one-to-one with the same child for the duration of the program. While the program runs for one full school year, you can be a part of supporting an entire semester of this work. The results speak for themselves: children who participate in Jumpstart programs consistently build school readiness skill levels at a greater rate than non-participating children. By supporting a team, you will be helping Jumpstart work toward the day when every child in America enters school prepared to succeed.
