Government of India reports reveal that many children who enrol in the public schools in India are unable to even read and write according to their grade specific levels. Factors such as poor quality of teaching and lack of activities encouraging the development of reading and writing skills are some of the reasons for the same. Project Nanhi Kali - for the under priviledged girl child cultivates reading skills in these children through school based Library Centres.
