Research Mines
One field visit
Mines Action Canada
Problem
For the first time, civil society organizations around the world have come together in a systematic way to monitor international humanitarian law under the Mine Ban Treaty. Researchers document problems and progress of the landmine situation worldwide. We believe this unique, civil society-based monitoring mechanism will ensure the issue remains in the political spotlight and will aid in all Treaty obligations being realized - eliminating the suffering caused by landmines in our lifetime.
The Gift
A field visit to a mine-affected area helps the Landmine Monitor continue to be the definitive source in verifying that stockpiled mines have been destroyed; confirming reports of new mine victims and the documentation of suspected mine-affected communities to accurately reflect the progress and problems of efforts to rid the world of landmines.
