One village workshop
PDHRE, People's Movement for Human Rights Learning
Worldwide, well intentioned people 'help the needy" rather then create an environment where people can empower themselves. This must change. People can learn to help themselves with such assistance but in dignity. All countries have joined in developing economic and social justice norms. However, ordinary people in towns and villages who can use these norms as a tool for change do not know about them, and therefore cannot use them to transform their lives.
Your gift will provide one workshop in a village or the participation of one person in an urban seminar, enhancing their knowledge about human rights at the community level. At these community workshops, women and men learn about the practical and holistic vision of human rights as a way of life, develop plans to claim them and be empowered to participate in the decisions that determine their lives. Guided by the human rights framework, participants join in breaking through the vicious cycle of humiliation, joining to overcome poverty, disintegration and inequality.
