Transform Patriarchy
Moving to a HR System
PDHRE, People's Movement for Human Rights Learning
Problem
Patriarchy is a system in which we are all involved and collaborate; it is interconnected to other forms of discrimination and inequality. Each one of us, women and men alike, are born into a world of privileged and underprivileged, of the powerful and the powerless…where injustice is justice, exchanging equality for survival. In these societal structures we are socialized to dominate and exclude others: women/men, minorities/majorities, children/adults, poor/rich, and disintegration and poverty reign.
The Gift
Support a campaign developed to effect social and economic transformation, and promote a new political culture based on human rights. Through learning about human rights, women and men examine the patriarchal system, moving to embrace a human rights framework as the only way to achieve equality and overcome discrimination. Through dialogue they “discover," and analyze how universal oppressions of patriarchy work, particularly racism, nationalism and xenophobia, triggering forms of supremacy, hierarchy and exploitation. Based on our experience, the learning about human rights, relevant to our daily lives, is a tool that helps see how both women and men are the victims of patriarchy which shapes our ideology and behaviors. Moreover, human rights learning facilitate systemic analysis, focusing on our commonality as human beings as well as our differences. Dialogue can transform and transcend the patriarchal system into a human rights way of life for all.
