Educated prisoners are more likely to lead productive and successful lives after their release – and less likely to return to the correctional system. Funding for prison educational programs is sparse and self-education is the only option left for many. The Prison Book Program fills the gap by providing books to prisoners across the U.S. who ask for them. Thanks to many generous donors, we have thousands of donated books in our library, but it costs us $3 to mail books to each prisoners.
Your gift of $15 dollars allows us to send packages of two donated books from our library to five prisoners - a total of ten books. Anecdotal evidence shows that books in prison are read by up to 25 people before the end of their useful life. So for just $15 you can give the gift of literacy to nearly 250 prisoners!
