Problem

In fuels, the United States has stubbornly clung to fermentation-based technologies, resulting in two percent of today’s gasoline made from costly, heavily-subsidized ethanol from corn-based sugars. The next generation of biofuels, cellulose-based technologies, could provide 25% of the nation’s fuel needs at competitive market prices, because of the availability of waste biomass and the inherent efficiencies in the processes that double the ethanol yield.

The Gift

Your gift will help RMI convince investors that cellulosic technologies are possible. We will work to convince the fuels industry how and why they can make money adopting these new technologies and concomitant business models. RMI has the capabilities to develop these compelling business cases. Once the business and regulatory strategies have been defined, RMI’s role will be to help bring this message to investors and help shift the capital markets.
