Grow Food and Faith
Rural Advancement Foundation International-USA
Farmers and hungry people are often thought of as wanting opposite things: farmers want to sell expensive food, and food insecure people want cheap food. But in reality, farmers and food insecure people share the same economy, the same families, and the same communities. Often they are the same people.
This gift sends five copies of "Come to the Table: How People of Faith Can Relieve Hunger and Support Local Farms in North Carolina" to a church or other faith community. Houses of faith can build projects that bring local food to families in need, supporting local farms and feeding the hungry. Already, churches have used this guidebook to start community gardens, hold local-food dinners, buy shares of a local farm for food banks, glean fresh produce from fields, and more. This gift equips a group of faith leaders to make faithful, fair, and sustainable food available to those who need it. This guidebook provides theological background, overviews of issues in hunger and farming, practical tools for getting started, and stories of projects from around the state.
