Impoverished populations and poor women in particular cannot access traditional banking services. They do not meet the requirements to access capital loans and other services. This makes access to business opportunities difficult, and women often find themselves financially supported by a man, putting them in relationships of dependency, where control over their reproductive and sexual lives is limited. Helping women start businesses empowers them and their children.
This gift will provide a capital loan which will be used to support a business run by a group of women or an individual woman. The loan will be linked with classes to support the business including account keeping, savings mechanisms, etc. In addition, the beneficiaries of the loan will be linked to the reproductive and sexual health services implemented by VEI. All loan reimbursement will be returned to the loan portfolio for further availability to women entrepreneurs.
