Problem
Ewing's sarcoma is a cancer that starts in bone or in soft tissues. The most common sites for Ewing's sarcoma are the pelvis, the thigh, and the trunk of the body. The peak ages are between 10 and 20, but anyone can get Ewing's sarcoma. We do not know what causes Ewing's sarcoma. Like other sarcomas, ES can spread so the whole body must be treated with chemotherapy, however, successful treatment also requires other forms of treatment to the main mass of tumor, usually surgery or radiation.
The Gift
Go4theGoal is supporting the research at Dr. Jeff Toretsky's lab at Lonbardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University. His work with Ewing's Sarcoma is progressing with the identification of proteins that will effectively kill the Ewing's cells. In 2007, we purchased a protein purification machine that has allowed them to move forward and this year, we have granted them money for a research chemist to speed up the process! You could help with our commitment to continue to fund their important work for cancer research.
