Problem

More than 14 million school age children are on their own after the school day ends. These children and teenagers need access to constructive after school activities in order to stay out of trouble. Teens who are unsupervised after the school day ends are nearly three times more likely to skip classes than teens who do participate and are more likely to use marijuana or other drugs, drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes.

The Gift

One way to keep kids out of trouble is to encourage learning all day long and provide access to fun, constructive activities. With this aim, we strive to provide quality after school programming at many of our properties. A donation of $80 will provide for an afternoon of arts and crafts activities for 15 disadvantaged children. The families who live at our properties often cannot afford to enroll their children in after school programs. By providing organized activities, such as an arts and crafts fair, we ensure these children have access to a safe, supervised environment where they can have fun and continue learning long after the school bell rings.
