Please do not buy me any more picture frames or vases or sweaters. I have enough stuff. Really. I would much rather you made a donation to make the world a better place. That would be a much more meaningful gift. Scroll on down and see what I care about.
Likewise, I would rather donate in your name than go shopping, so I hope you will please create your wish list, too.
Thank you all!
Friends of the World Food Program, Inc.
Your gift will provide take-home food rations to girls in school for six months to help ease the economic burden on parents. This will help convince parents to keep their daughters in school and free them from their household chores. This gives girls, who otherwise may stay at home, the chance to learn. By promoting education for girls, the World Food Program (WFP) will improve a woman’s chances of finding well-paid work, raising a healthy family and even preventing the spread of diseases like HIV/AIDS. WFP is also helping these girls to achieve economic independence and have a voice within their communities. Education empowers girls and gives them the knowledge and tools they need to improve their lives. It will continue to have positive and long-lasting effects not only for them, but also for their families and their communities. Your $25 donation enables WaterAid to provide one person with clean safe water, sanitation and hygiene education in one of the 26 countries where we work. This gift is enough to pay for one person in one of the world's poorest countries to gain access to safe, clean water and sanitation for life.
Unite For Sight
You can make a significant, meaningful, tangible impact in the lives of children and adults worldwide. Each cataract surgery completely restores someone's sight in approximately 15-30 minutes, and the cost of the surgery in Tamale, Ghana is $60. Every dollar donated makes a tremendous impact on the lives of children and adults. Unite For Sight's volunteers work as support staff with eye clinics in Africa and Asia. The clinic's eye doctors diagnose and treat eye disease in the field, and surgical patients are brought to the eye clinic for surgery. Unite For Sight funds the surgeries for those patients unable to afford eye care. This partnership between Unite For Sight volunteers and eye clinics enables sustainable programs while simultaneously reducing the barriers to health care, including financial, transportation, cultural, and education hindrances.
This gift will provide the magic of two new books to a child in need, and help create a foundation of literacy in her life.
LifeNet4Families Cooperative Feeding Program
This gift will offset the costs of supplying a bag of holiday food items for a needy family.

World Land Trust-US
WLT-US buys real acres in real places and protects them forever. By targeting the highest priority areas and taking these areas off the market for destruction, we can save countless species and critical habitats that are often protected nowhere else. We are highly efficient and able to purchase and protect private lands with rainforest for $100 an acre or less. We focus actions on key areas under imminent threat that often represent the last surviving habitat for threatened species. We then move swiftly to protect these biodiversity treasures before they are lost. World Land Trust-US has protected over 600,000 acres of rainforests and other threatened habitats to protect the most endangered species forever.
Committee to Protect Journalists
In addition to broad advocacy for threatened journalists in Columbia, one of the world’s most murderous countries for journalists, CPJ provides financial support for Columbian journalists in extreme and imminent danger. A modest contribution can go very far in Columbia, enabling a threatened journalist to enter a safe haven. Your gift of $250 will be matched by CPJ to host a Colombian journalist in a safe haven, including accommodation and food for one month. While CPJ advocates on behalf of any journalist attacked for their work, your contribution will support only the families of journalists where CPJ has ascertained funds can be delivered legally, safely, and reliably and will have a significant impact on the journalist and their family.
School and Teacher Resources
Without sports equipment, the Sultan of Swing would still be George Herman Ruth, Jr. Students need sports equipment to exercise, to learn team work, to develop social skills, and to compete. Your contribution can make all the difference for deserving students.
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
Your gift will support current research into new agents to treat lung cancer and prevent its recurrence. Memorial Sloan-Kettering researchers are evaluating new drugs for lung cancer, including getifinib (Iressa). First tested at MSKCC, getitinib is one of a new class of drugs known as signal transduction inhibitors, which work by blocking the signal that make cancer cells grow and spread.
