Your gift of $75 dollars allows us to send packages of two donated books from our library to 25 prisoners - a total of 50 books. Anecdotal evidence shows that books in prison are read by up to 25 people before the end of their useful life. So for just $75 you can give the gift of literacy to nearly 1250 prisoners!

By providing a GED study guide and a good dictionary to one prisoner, you are giving him a chance to earn a GED, improve reading skills, find gainful employment upon release and shut the revolving door of crime and prison behind him. The community gains one more productive citizen and saves the cost of housing one more inmate.

Your gift of $25 will fund the purchase of one business start-up guide and the cost of mailing it to a budding entrepreneur in prison. Your gift will also give him a chance to find gainful employment, become a productive member of society and in many cases, support his family.

$100 will cover an individual youth's stipend for one week. Youth will develop their typing skills. They will learn the whole production process for The Beat Within weekly magazine. Youth will also work in an environment with a diverse group of adult and youth staff all working to better the community. Most internships last 12-20 weeks.
