The Problem
People with Parkinson's have problems with mood, sleep, chewing, swallowing and digestion. Problems with chewing and swallowing are, in fact, amongst the most common reasons for death in people with Parkinson's. However research has shown that dietary interventions can help support improvements in these symptoms. Additionally, research is beginning to demonstrate how certain nutrients may benefit brain health. Yet many people with Parkinson's report that they are not given information about nutrition from their health care providers.
The Gift
Your support will help people with Parkinson's eat a healthy, Parkinson's-specific diet to help manage their symptoms. Our cooking classes provide a hands-on opportunity for people with Parkinson's and their care partners to learn about our nutritional guidelines while interacting with other people that are living with the disease. At the end of the class, we enjoy a healthy dinner together!
