Donations are a great opportunity for people to give to people who have nothing. We have the chance to have a place to live, to be educated, to earn money every day where people in the world do not have just water to drink. It is also important to support causes that matter and give our time to things that can change the world.

Educate Young Girls - Food for education

Friends of the World Food Program, Inc.

$60.00

Your gift will provide take-home food rations to girls in school for six months to help ease the economic burden on parents. This will help convince parents to keep their daughters in school and free them from their household chores. This gives girls, who otherwise may stay at home, the chance to learn. By promoting education for girls, the World Food Program (WFP) will improve a woman’s chances of finding well-paid work, raising a healthy family and even preventing the spread of diseases like HIV/AIDS. WFP is also helping these girls to achieve economic independence and have a voice within their communities. Education empowers girls and gives them the knowledge and tools they need to improve their lives. It will continue to have positive and long-lasting effects not only for them, but also for their families and their communities. Mercy Corps is helping to contain this deadly disease by promoting HIV/AIDS awareness in many countries. Through radio campaigns, distribution of informational materials, presentations in classrooms and other innovative methods, we are helping individuals learn how to prevent the disease, recognize its symptoms and care for patients.

Adapt Healthcare - 3 policy meetings

Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund

$300.00

Your contribution will support participation by a disability policy analyst in three meetings with policy makers where the right to accessible healthcare will be at stake for people with disabilities. Our analysts are breaking new ground by working with policy makers in California to ensure that managed care organizations work with their medical providers to achieve accessibility for people with disabilities and provide accommodations—Braille, Sign Language interpreters, accessible exam tables, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act. The goal is to ensure that all health plans in the state understand the accessibility and accommodation needs of people with disabilities and have the capacity to ensure that their medical providers meet these needs. One specific policy objective is to secure support for establishing a state-wide independent technical assistance center that will create models for access and accommodation, advise plans, and monitor outcomes.
