Friends of the World Food Program, Inc.
$60.00
Your gift will provide take-home food rations to girls in school for six months to help ease the economic burden on parents. This will help convince parents to keep their daughters in school and free them from their household chores. This gives girls, who otherwise may stay at home, the chance to learn. By promoting education for girls, the World Food Program (WFP) will improve a woman’s chances of finding well-paid work, raising a healthy family and even preventing the spread of diseases like HIV/AIDS. WFP is also helping these girls to achieve economic independence and have a voice within their communities. Education empowers girls and gives them the knowledge and tools they need to improve their lives. It will continue to have positive and long-lasting effects not only for them, but also for their families and their communities. Cooperative Housing Foundation
$30.00
Update: April 22, 2009 Due to recent political events in Sudan, CHF International is one of 13 international aid organizations in Darfur that has been asked by the Sudanese government to leave the Darfur region. CHF International regrets the decision of the Sudanese government and remains committed to working with the Sudanese government in order to continue to provide humanitarian assistance and development to the people of Darfur. CHF hopes that the situation will be resolved in such a way as we are able to continue our life-saving work as soon as possible. However, as it is unknown when we will be able to return to the region, if we are unable to re-enter, all current donations received for this project may need to be reprogrammed to other CHF aid and development activities around the world. Please note that CHF is an independent, neutral organization whose focus is entirely on helping the most vulnerable people in North and South Sudan.

Alternatives for Girls
$10.00
Your $10 donation will provide 3 hygiene kits. Last year, through the Safe Choices program, we distributed 838 hygiene kits to the women on the streets. However, we depend on the items to be donated for the hygiene kits, and there were many nights where we ran out of hygiene kits to pass out. We also have a walk-in resource room with a shower. For women living on the street, a shower can sometimes be a rarity. When these women come in for a shower, we give them a hygiene kit at that time too. These hygiene kits are very important for the welfare of the women we serve – as in the case for all of us, when we feel clean, we feel stronger, happier, and more confident. Your gift will be a great show of support Alternatives For Girls and for work that we do.
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation
$133.00
This gift will help BCRF provide $250,000 to one dedicated researcher hoping to find a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime.
Alternatives for Girls
$10.00
Your gift of $10 will allow us to purchase a baby item for one of the 14 children living in our shelter. The children range from newborn up to 5 years and we would buy an item that is necessary and suitable for that baby or child. Some examples of items would be baby blankets, pacifiers, clothing, diapers, baby hygiene items, toys, and books. We want to teach the motherz at AFG proper baby care while they have the support of a knowledgeable and caring staff. We want the mothers to be fully equipped with baby items when they move out on their own, since we know how expensive diapers and baby food can be with a limited income. We need the support of donors like yourself to help us with purchases like these which can add up to a large expense with so many children. Your gift would help keep these babies (and their mothers) happy and healthy!
Feminist Majority Foundation
$35.00
The Feminist Majority Foundation’s Campaign for Afghan Women and Girls is working for women’s equality and freedom in Afghanistan. The campaign, chaired by Mavis Leno, was the first of its kind to build a U.S. grassroots constituency around a foreign policy issue of women’s rights, and it successfully brought the Taliban regime’s atrocities against women and girls in Afghanistan to the attention of the United States and the world. Our Campaign for Afghan Women and Girls was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. Now, we are working to protect the hard-won gains for Afghan women and girls, in the face of a resurgence in Taliban activity. Your gift of $35 will provide a month of sanitary napkin supplies for 10 girls in Afghanistan. Meeting this basic need will help girls and ensure a brighter future for women and girls in Afghanistan.
Feminist Majority Foundation
$75.00
Ms. is in a position to fill this gap of solid investigative reporting. With limited resources, Ms. has been successful in breaking investigative news. For example, in Spring 2006, Ms. sent an investigative team to the U.S. territory of the Northern Mariana Islands to expose the sweatshop conditions for women workers and put a woman’s face on Jack Abramoff’s scandalous lobbying. Ms. sparked renewed action and coverage on the exploitation of these women. New legislation was introduced to reform labor and immigration laws in the Marianas, and women’s groups organized actions as a result of this investigative work. Both nationally and globally, Ms. is determined to be on the frontlines investigating breaking stories or stories that have not yet come to the attention of the public. Your gift of $75, together with the gifts of 99 other contributors, covers the cost of one groundbreaking Ms. Investigative Report.
Feminist Majority Foundation
$105.00
The Feminist Majority Foundation runs the only Mifepristone Compassionate Use Program in the country. Our program serves as the only hope for many critically ill patients, mostly women, who have exhausted all standard therapies, including chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. Mifepristone is a life line for these women, and some men, some of whom have depended on this drug for over a decade. Since the program’s inception in 1998, we have provided mifepristone to more than 140 patients. FMF distributes the drug at cost to physicians whose patients are able to pay for the drug, at a reduced rate to those who can pay in part, and free to patients unable to afford this medication considered experimental and not usually covered by insurance. Your $105 contribution will help us provide the drug for 1 month to a critically ill patient.
International Medical Corps
$50.00
Your gift will provide seeds and tools for one woman. When you give a woman something as simple as the seeds and tools she needs to grow food, you are empowering her and her entire community to break free from the cycle of hunger and disease. You are supporting good nutrition, promoting sustainable agriculture, and helping to strengthen communities that have been affected by conflict and famine. And since IMC teaches women to grow plants found in their local environment, you are also preserving cultural knowledge about local crops.
Feminist Majority Foundation
$50.00
The Feminist Majority Foundation’s National Clinic Access Project is the oldest and largest clinic defense program in the country, working to keep women’s health clinics open in the face of violence and intimidation, and to bring anti-abortion terrorists to justice. We work with some 587 independent women’s health clinics. FMF clinic defense organizers regularly provide assistance to local communities and clinics that have been singled out for demonstrations by anti-abortion groups. We work in the field with the clinic staff and local volunteers to assist in preparing for anti-abortion protesters at their clinics, and we held defend the clinic during the anti-abortion activities. Your gift of $50 covers the expenses of a clinic defense organizer in the field for one day.
Equality Now
$33.00
Your gift will enable Equality Now to produce and distribute Women's Action campaign alerts to approximately 50 members of the Women's Action Network, who voice their opposition to human rights violations against women and girls by contacting government authorities, circulating petitions and raising awareness in their communities. When governments encounter protest from around the world, they know they are being held accountable for these human rights abuses. The activists you help mobilize will, for example, demand full recognition of women’s rights in Afghanistan, where the security of women and girls is continually threatened, and advocate for a commitment to fundamental human rights as an approach to sustainable peace. Your gift helps channel collective outrage into strategic action, and the public pressure generated continues to multiply, resulting in a greater impact in the struggle for justice and equality for all women and girls.
Feminist Majority Foundation
$100.00
Since its founding, the Feminist Majority Foundation has built a tradition of mobilizing young people in advocacy and activism for women’s rights and health and non-violence. FMF’s Campus Program works to recruit and train the next generation of feminist leaders on college campuses nationwide. Our Choices Campus Leadership Program provides young women with organizing skills and tools to lead, run for campus-wide office, educate their peers, counter the threats to women’s empowerment and reproductive rights, increase access to reproductive health services, and reduce violence against women. FMF provides students with extensive educational materials and training to facilitate their work both on and off campus. Through workshops on campuses and regional and national conferences, students learn public speaking, media, fundraising and grassroots organizing strategies. Your $100 gift will defray the cost of an FMF leadership training conference for a community college student.
Alternatives for Girls
$10.00
Your $10 gift will provide an AFG Shelter resident an alarm clock to keep with her even when she leaves the shelter. An alarm clock is a simple yet often overlooked accessory that is essential to being successful. For the women who arrive at our shelter, an alarm clock is one of the tools we like to provide in helping them succeed in their lives. We hope you join us in this initiative to make sure every resident that comes through our shelter leaves with an alarm clock and a chance for a much more successful future.
